Progressive post-hardcore band With Sails Ahead have announced the release date for their upcoming single “Murder Mountain”. The new track is set to release Wednesday, May 19th on all major digital music platforms. This track is the follow-up to their single, “In Fear and Loathing”, previously released in November 2020.
Murder Mountain is a swift kick to the face in the form of brick-breaking rhythm guitars and aggressive vocals. The band set out to create their punchiest, darkest song sonically- a definitive statement that all future material will fully embody the progressive post-hardcore genre. Guitarist Josef Warner-Reyes found the process of writing the new track to be one of the smoothest:
“Not all songs come together as quickly and naturally as Murder Mountain. I wrote most of the song on my own before bringing it to my bandmates. I believe the organic songwriting process was captured perfectly when we recorded this song early last year. As we've grown together as musicians, we demonstrate that growth in our performances on this song.“
The imagery of the single art (and the upcoming music video) paint a picture of a treacherous mountain peak that many have failed to survive, but the lyrics are more like personal anecdotes for vocalist Sierra Binondo’s personal experiences trying to make sense of her relationships as a creative:
“When it was time to write lyrics for ‘Murder’, it was around a time where I felt very fed up with being taken advantage of for my kindness. People see me as someone who is happy to give and reciprocate, which I will always continue to do, but I still come across people who are only seeking out my time and resources for their gain. I struggle with communicating boundaries, but it’s appalling how some people don’t seem to understand (or care) when they’re being too persistent or selfish. The lyrics are super on the nose for me, but it felt like the song called for it.”
"Murder Mountain" will be available on all major digital retailers and streaming services Wednesday, May 19th, 2021, with a same-day music video premiere at 3:00 PM EST. The band will be celebrating the release with a Smash Ultimate stream on their Twitch.
